A zoo in China has sparked significant controversy after painting a donkey to resemble a zebra. The incident, which occurred in a park in the city of Anqiu, was reportedly orchestrated by management in an attempt to attract visitors and create a novel entertainment experience.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing a report by the "Need to Know" publication, the unusual event was documented by park visitors who quickly noticed the deception. Footage circulating online clearly shows the donkey with black stripes painted on its coat, attempting to mimic the appearance of a zebra. However, the animal's long ears and distinct body structure quickly revealed its true identity.
The images, which spread rapidly across social media platforms, triggered a wave of mockery and criticism. Many users accused the park administration of misleading the public by attempting to pass off a common donkey as an exotic animal. In response to the backlash, park representatives claimed they never explicitly stated the animal was a zebra.
"We are essentially doing a form of cosplay," the park officials stated. "We never claimed it was a zebra, and there were no signs posted to that effect. It was simply intended as a joke to entertain our guests." The administration further noted that they had previously employed similar methods to increase visitor interest, including altering the appearance of certain dogs.
