Ten individuals have been detained in Iran for the unauthorized use of Starlink satellite internet terminals.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Cyber Police Department of Qom Province released information regarding the arrests. According to official statements, Starlink devices are classified as "dangerous products" within the country, and their use is strictly prohibited under current legislation.
The provincial authorities confirmed that the 10 detained individuals will face serious legal consequences in accordance with the law. Law enforcement agencies emphasized that they are continuing rigorous monitoring and enforcement measures across the country to prevent the distribution and operation of such satellite communication equipment.
The crackdown on Starlink terminals comes amid Iran's long-standing policy of strict internet censorship and control over information flow. While the Iranian government restricts access to numerous global platforms and social media networks, satellite-based internet services like Starlink, operated by SpaceX, have been sought by citizens to bypass local filters. This incident highlights the ongoing tension between technological advancements in global connectivity and the regulatory frameworks of countries seeking to maintain centralized control over digital communications.
