A severe technical failure within the railway network in Germany has led to the temporary suspension of train traffic across the country.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the national railway operator, Deutsche Bahn, issued an official statement regarding the incident.

The disruption was caused by a malfunction in the "GSM-R" digital communication network, which facilitates essential contact between train drivers and traffic control centers. Consequently, all train operations across Germany were temporarily halted.

The failure impacted intercity high-speed trains, regional rail lines, and the Berlin S-Bahn suburban network. As a result, thousands of passengers were left stranded at stations, leading to long queues at ticket counters and information centers.

Deutsche Bahn specialists worked for approximately two and a half hours to resolve the communication system issue. Company officials stated that the system was stabilized using emergency backup mechanisms, allowing train traffic to resume gradually.

While the exact cause of the malfunction remains under investigation, the company provided affected passengers with taxi vouchers and hotel accommodations, while opening waiting halls at several stations. Although operations have resumed, Deutsche Bahn warned that delays and cancellations may persist throughout the day.

Germany's railway infrastructure is among the busiest in Europe, serving millions of passengers daily. Such large-scale technical failures are relatively rare but highlight the critical reliance on digital communication systems for modern rail safety and logistics.
