President Ilham Aliyev meets with Nikol Pashinyan in Bishkek

President Ilham Aliyev of the Republic of Azerbaijan held a meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia on August 31 in Bishkek, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the leaders underscored the historical significance of the Washington Peace Summit held on August 8, 2025. They highlighted the Joint Declaration signed by President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan under the witness of US President Donald Trump, as well as the initialing of the agreed text of the "Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia."

The discussion touched upon the tangible benefits of peace, noting the export of Azerbaijani oil products to Armenia, the transit of grain and other goods from third countries through Azerbaijani territory to Armenia, and the establishment of trade relations between the two nations. The leaders welcomed contacts between business circles and exchanged views on expanding mutually beneficial economic, trade, and energy cooperation.

The parties noted the vital role of the respective state commissions on the delimitation of the state border between Azerbaijan and Armenia, emphasizing the importance of continuing their work in accordance with the agreements reached between the two countries.

Furthermore, the leaders discussed practical steps regarding the implementation of the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity" (TRIPP), a key outcome of the Washington Peace Summit, and noted the importance of connectivity projects along the TRIPP corridor. They also acknowledged the contributions of parliamentarians and civil society representatives to strengthening mutual trust and supporting the broader peace agenda.

President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan agreed to continue steps toward further consolidating sustainable peace, advancing the normalization of interstate relations, and strengthening connectivity through direct bilateral contacts.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Bishkek serves as a significant platform for regional dialogue. The participation of the Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders in such international forums underscores the ongoing diplomatic efforts to finalize the peace process and foster regional stability in the South Caucasus.
