The people of Azerbaijan are commemorating the victims of the Khojaly genocide, one of the most heinous crimes committed against humanity in modern history.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, starting from the morning of February 26, a large number of citizens have been visiting the "Mother's Cry" monument in Baku to pay their respects. Visitors are laying fresh carnations at the foot of the monument to honor the memory of those who perished during the tragedy.

The commemorative ceremony is attended by state and government officials, as well as prominent public and political figures, who joined the procession to express their solidarity and grief.

The Khojaly genocide occurred on the night of February 25-26, 1992, during the First Garabagh War. Armenian armed forces, with the support of the 366th motorized rifle regiment of the former USSR, attacked the town of Khojaly, resulting in the brutal killing of 613 civilians, including 106 women, 63 children, and 70 elderly people. This annual commemoration serves as a solemn reminder of the necessity for international recognition and justice for the victims of the massacre.
