A driver has been arrested in Baku after engaging in reckless driving while under the influence of narcotics. The incident, which posed a significant threat to public safety, was confirmed by the Main State Traffic Police Department (BDYPİ) to the Operative Information Center-OMM.
According to the official statement, officers from the BDYPİ Ecological Control Unit apprehended the driver, identified as Elgun Ahmadov, after he was observed operating a "Khazar" brand vehicle in a manner that grossly violated public order and traffic regulations.
Subsequent investigations revealed that Ahmadov was driving a rented vehicle while under the influence of drugs, deliberately disturbing the peace and safety of the public. Notably, passengers in the vehicle failed to discourage the driver's illegal actions; instead, they recorded the dangerous behavior on video, effectively encouraging the reckless conduct.
The materials collected regarding Ahmadov's case were submitted to the court. Consequently, he has been sentenced to one month of administrative detention and stripped of his driving privileges for a period of one year.
In Azerbaijan, traffic safety remains a priority for law enforcement agencies, which frequently conduct operations to identify and penalize drivers who violate road safety regulations, particularly those operating vehicles under the influence of illicit substances.
