Illegal tree felling cases have been uncovered in Baku, Absheron, Sabirabad, Samux, and Aghjabadi during monitoring activities conducted by the State Environmental Security Service over the past week.
According to information provided by the service to the Operative Information Center-OMM, investigations revealed illegal logging at multiple locations, including Ceyhun Hajibeyli Street in the Narimanov district, Inqilab Ismayilov Street in the Khatai district, the Novkhani dacha area in Binagadi, and several addresses in the Nasimi and Badamdar districts of Baku. Similar violations were documented in the Masazir and Ashaghi Guzdek settlements of the Absheron district, along the Mammadli-Kurdakhani highway, and in the Sabirabad, Samux, and Aghjabadi regions. The total environmental damage caused by these actions is estimated at 317,180 manats.
Due to the scale of the damage, which constitutes a criminal offense under national legislation, the collected materials have been submitted to law enforcement agencies for legal assessment. Azerbaijan has significantly tightened its environmental protection laws in recent years, increasing penalties for the destruction of green spaces to promote ecological sustainability and urban reforestation efforts across the country.
