Individuals using electronic cigarettes in prohibited areas, streets, and other public spaces in Azerbaijan will face financial penalties starting this spring.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this measure is reflected in the amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses, following a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev regarding its implementation.

According to the document, starting April 1, a fine of 30 manats will be imposed for the use of electronic cigarettes in prohibited locations, including streets and various public venues across the country. This enforcement aligns with broader legislative efforts to regulate alternative tobacco products and protect public health in Azerbaijan.

The move follows a significant amendment to the Law "On Tobacco and Tobacco Products." Under the new regulations effective April 1, the import, export, production, storage, wholesale and retail sale, and general use of electronic cigarettes and their components are officially prohibited within the Republic of Azerbaijan. These stringent measures are part of the government's comprehensive strategy to reduce nicotine dependency and align national health standards with international frameworks, such as the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.
