A Central Commission for Assistance to the Population Census will be established to oversee preparations for and the conduct of the 2029 national census in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Prime Minister Ali Asadov has signed a decree outlining the action plan for the preparation and implementation of the 2029 population census.
Population censuses serve as a cornerstone for national demographic planning, providing essential data for economic policy, social infrastructure development, and public service allocation. By conducting these periodic assessments, the government ensures that national development strategies are aligned with current population trends and regional requirements.
The Central Commission is tasked with the following responsibilities:
- Coordinating the activities of state bodies to ensure the smooth execution of the census, addressing operational challenges, and ensuring inter-agency cooperation.
- Submitting proposals to the Cabinet of Ministers within two months regarding the remuneration of census staff and service fees for those involved in the process, based on recommendations from the State Statistical Committee.
- Regularly reviewing the progress of census preparations and submitting status reports to the Cabinet of Ministers every six months.
According to the decree, the population census in the Republic of Azerbaijan is scheduled for October 1, 2029, at 00:00. To evaluate preparedness, a pilot census will be conducted in the Khachmaz district from October 1 to October 31, 2028.
The State Statistical Committee will form a specialized census group to manage the preparation, implementation, data processing, and publication of results, ensuring all staff are hired under fixed-term employment contracts.
