New regulations governing the issuance, suspension, and revocation of the authorized economic operator (AEO) status are currently being drafted in Azerbaijan.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, this initiative follows a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev regarding the implementation of the law "On Amendments to the Customs Code."
Under the terms of the decree, the Cabinet of Ministers has been tasked with preparing and submitting a comprehensive framework to the head of state within six months. This framework will define the procedures for granting, suspending, or revoking AEO status, as well as establishing the list of required documentation for applicants. Furthermore, the government is mandated to align existing legislative acts with these new amendments and take necessary measures to address related regulatory matters.
The Authorized Economic Operator program is a globally recognized trade facilitation initiative, often aligned with World Customs Organization standards. By granting AEO status to compliant businesses, customs authorities can offer simplified procedures, reduced inspections, and priority processing. This move is part of Azerbaijan's broader strategy to enhance its business climate, improve trade logistics, and integrate more efficiently into international supply chains by reducing bureaucratic hurdles for reliable economic actors.
