The hunting season in Azerbaijan has been extended until March 1, 2026, following a decision by the Coordination Council on Hunting Issues under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reported that the decision was finalized during the latest meeting of the council. Arzu Babayeva, a representative of the Service for Protection of Biodiversity, stated that the winter bird census has concluded, with monitoring and expert observations confirming that bird populations in Azerbaijan remain stable. The extension was deemed appropriate after considering current ecological conditions, the specific characteristics of bird wintering periods, and numerous requests from hunting enthusiasts.
Babayeva emphasized that all participants must strictly adhere to the requirements of national legislation during the season. Hunting is only permitted within established limits and must be supported by valid permits. The official further stressed that hunting remains strictly prohibited in national parks, state nature reserves, and other protected areas across the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan serves as a vital corridor for migratory birds traveling between Europe, Asia, and Africa, making wildlife management a priority for regional biodiversity. The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources regularly conducts monitoring to ensure that hunting activities do not negatively impact the country's ecological balance. These measures are part of Azerbaijan's broader strategy to promote sustainable tourism and outdoor activities while maintaining rigorous environmental protection standards.
