Azerbaijani border guards have successfully prevented an attempt to smuggle more than 21 kilograms of narcotics from Iran into the country.
The Operative Information Center-OMM was informed by the State Border Service that the operation took place within the service area of the "Horadiz" border detachment of the State Border Service's Border Troops. As a result of comprehensive border searches and operational measures, 21 kilograms and 300 grams of marijuana were discovered and seized by the authorities.
Operational and investigative measures are currently ongoing to identify all individuals involved in the smuggling attempt. Azerbaijan continues to strengthen its border security infrastructure and surveillance capabilities to combat transnational organized crime and illegal drug trafficking along its southern borders.
The Horadiz border sector is a critical zone in Azerbaijan's ongoing efforts to secure the state border and prevent the transit of illicit substances. In recent years, the State Border Service has intensified its technical equipment and personnel training to effectively counter smuggling activities, which remain a significant challenge for regional security and public health in Azerbaijan.
