On May 9, Azerbaijan marked the 81st anniversary of the historic victory over fascism in World War II, honoring the immense contribution of the Azerbaijani people to the global defeat of Nazi Germany.

As reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva visited the grave of the twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Major General of the Tank Forces Hazi Aslanov. The head of state and the First Lady laid flowers at the monument and paid tribute to the memory of all sons and daughters of Azerbaijan who sacrificed their lives during the war.

Azerbaijan played a strategic role in the victory during the 1941-1945 conflict, providing the majority of the fuel and lubricants required for the Soviet front lines. More than 600,000 Azerbaijanis fought in the war, with many receiving the highest military honors for their bravery. Today, Victory Day remains a significant state holiday in Azerbaijan, symbolizing the nation's resilience and its historical role in ensuring international security and peace.
