Unstable and rainy weather conditions are expected to continue in parts of Azerbaijan until the end of the second decade of May, according to the National Hydrometeorological Service.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that intermittent rain is forecast for Baku and the Absheron Peninsula from the evening of May 16 through May 19. There is a high probability of intensified precipitation and thunderstorms in various parts of the peninsula during this period.
In the regions of Azerbaijan, the weather will remain volatile with heavy rainfall, lightning, and hail expected in specific areas. Meteorologists warn that precipitation may turn into snow in high-altitude mountainous zones. Due to the unstable atmospheric conditions, temperatures across the country are projected to drop by 3 to 6 degrees Celsius compared to previous days.
The National Hydrometeorological Service further noted that the heavy rains are likely to increase water levels in local rivers, with a risk of short-term flash floods in certain mountain streams. Residents and travelers in mountainous areas are advised to exercise caution.
Such weather patterns are characteristic of the transitional spring period in Azerbaijan, where the collision of different air masses often results in rapid shifts in temperature and precipitation levels. The National Hydrometeorological Service, an agency under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, continues to monitor atmospheric processes to provide timely updates and safety warnings to the public.
