During the first seven months of 2026, law enforcement agencies in Azerbaijan successfully removed 6 tons, 223 kilograms, and 519 grams of narcotics and psychotropic substances from illegal circulation. The total street value of the confiscated drugs is estimated at 187.2 million AZN.

According to official reports, the comprehensive operational-search measures conducted between January and July 2026 resulted in the detection of 4,963 criminal cases related to drug offenses. These included 1,250 cases of illegal drug sales, 3,613 cases of illegal possession, 97 cases of illegal cultivation of drug-containing plants, and three other related offenses.
The breakdown of the confiscated substances includes 5 tons, 307 kilograms of marijuana, 257 kilograms of heroin, 124.9 kilograms of opium, 247.6 kilograms of hashish, and 161.1 kilograms of various psychotropic substances. Additionally, authorities seized 34,983 methadone pills, 12,715 cannabis plants, and significant quantities of other potent toxic substances.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), in coordination with other relevant state agencies, conducted large-scale operations to eradicate wild-growing drug-containing plants. During the reporting period, 3,960,601 cannabis plants, weighing approximately 327 tons, were identified and destroyed across 1,167.2 hectares of land.
Azerbaijan maintains a strict policy against drug trafficking, viewing it as a significant threat to public health and national security. The State Commission on Combating Drug Addiction coordinates these multi-agency efforts to dismantle criminal networks and prevent the spread of illicit substances across the country.
