A driver has been sentenced to 30 days of administrative arrest in Azerbaijan for operating a heavy-tonnage vehicle under the influence of narcotics and committing several traffic violations. The incident occurred on the 129th kilometer of the Baku-Guba highway involving a DAF truck with registration plate 19 BX 609.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Main State Traffic Police Department, the driver, Azad Tahir oglu Shivakhanov, attempted to evade electronic weighing scales by reversing dangerously, creating a significant hazard for other road users. Surveillance cameras captured the illegal maneuver, leading to his immediate detention by traffic police officers. Subsequent inspections revealed that the vehicle was overloaded beyond the permitted weight, the driver lacked a valid license to operate the vehicle, and he was under the influence of drugs.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Azerbaijan has recently intensified its crackdown on drug-related traffic offenses and overweight commercial vehicles to enhance road safety across the country. The Baku-Guba highway is a critical transport artery connecting the capital with the northern regions and the border, making strict adherence to weight limits and driver sobriety essential for preventing infrastructure damage and ensuring the safety of the national transport corridor. Following the documentation of the violations, the case was referred to court, which issued the 30-day administrative detention order.
