At least 14 people have lost their lives following a collision between a passenger minibus and a truck in Uganda, according to reports from local authorities.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing Ugandan police, that the tragic road accident occurred late Monday night near the Kamunga Trading Center in the Kalungu district.
According to preliminary reports, the minibus, which was transporting passengers, collided with a truck loaded with sand. The impact resulted in the deaths of 14 passengers at the scene, while four others sustained injuries of varying severity. Following the incident, the driver of the truck fled the scene, and law enforcement agencies have launched a search operation to locate the suspect. Local officials have confirmed that an investigation into the causes of the crash is currently underway.
Road traffic accidents are a recurring issue in Uganda, often attributed to poor vehicle maintenance, excessive speeding, and inadequate road infrastructure. This incident follows a similar tragedy in July, when a bus transporting schoolchildren overturned, resulting in the deaths of more than 20 students.
