Türkiye has achieved a significant milestone in its burgeoning space industry.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Turkish Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır announced that the "Rubidium Atomic Clock" (RAFS), developed entirely with domestic resources under the National Space Program, has been successfully launched into space.

According to the minister, the first signal from the spacecraft has already been received. The project was executed under the leadership of the Turkish Space Agency, with TÜBİTAK UME serving as the prime contractor, in collaboration with TÜBİTAK UZAY and İTÜNOVA.

The atomic clock utilizes the stable resonance frequency of the rubidium atom, enabling high-precision time measurement. This technology, having been tested for space conditions, is expected to contribute significantly to the development of Türkiye's communication, navigation, and satellite systems.

Experts suggest that this project establishes a critical infrastructure foundation for Türkiye's future domestic satellite systems and regional positioning technologies. The development of indigenous space-grade hardware is a strategic priority for Ankara, aimed at reducing dependency on foreign technology and enhancing the nation's sovereign capabilities in satellite operations and global positioning services.
