The funeral committee spokesperson announced on Monday that preparations for the funeral of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei have been finalized multiple times; however, the ceremony has been repeatedly postponed due to the ongoing war conditions in the region.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the official committee representative confirmed that the ceremony is now scheduled to commence on July 4.
The spokesperson further stated that a separate farewell ceremony is planned for July 8 in the Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala. Officials noted that the heightened military tensions in the region have significantly impacted the logistical timeline, despite all preparations being complete. Consequently, the decision was made to proceed with the ceremony under strict security measures to ensure the safety of participants and officials.
The office of the Supreme Leader of Iran holds significant sway over the country's domestic and foreign policy. Such high-profile state events in Iran typically involve extensive coordination with regional allies and religious authorities, particularly in neighboring Iraq, where major Shia pilgrimage sites are located.
