The United States has launched a large-scale operation to clear naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery for global energy trade. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, US President Donald Trump announced the commencement of the mission via his Truth Social platform, framing the move as a security guarantee for international shipping.
"We are now starting the process of clearing the Strait of Hormuz as a favor to the countries of the world, including China, Japan, South Korea, France, Germany, and many others," US President Donald Trump stated. He emphasized that these nations lacked the resolve to undertake such a mission themselves, noting that tankers from various states are currently heading to the United States to be loaded with oil. Touching upon the military situation, the President added that 28 Iranian mine-laying vessels have already been neutralized and now "lie at the bottom of the sea." He asserted that this strategic move deprives Iran of its final leverage, suggesting that Tehran is effectively losing its confrontation with the United States.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most vital maritime chokepoints, situated between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Approximately one-fifth of the world's total oil consumption passes through this narrow waterway daily. Historically, any disruption or threat to navigation in the Strait has led to significant fluctuations in global energy prices and heightened geopolitical tensions. This latest operation by the United States underscores the administration's commitment to maintaining freedom of navigation and securing global supply chains against regional threats.
