US President invites Azerbaijan to join new international body for Middle East peace

US President Donald Trump has sent a letter to President Ilham Aliyev, inviting Azerbaijan to join the newly established Peace Council as a founding member.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the correspondence highlights a new diplomatic initiative aimed at resolving the Gaza conflict and fostering stability in the Middle East. President Ilham Aliyev responded to the invitation, expressing Azerbaijan's readiness to contribute to the mission and confirming the country's participation in the Council's charter.

In his letter, US President Donald Trump detailed a 20-point roadmap and a comprehensive plan announced on September 29, 2025, to end the Gaza conflict. The plan, which has received support through UN Security Council Resolution 2803, involves the creation of the Peace Council as a new international organization and Transition Management Administration. "I am honored to invite the Republic of Azerbaijan to join as a founding member state and to become a party to the Charter of the Peace Council under your representation," the US President stated, adding that the body will serve as a unique platform for world leaders to invest in a secure future.

President Ilham Aliyev, in his reply, thanked US President Donald Trump for the invitation, viewing it as a symbol of the fruitful partnership between Azerbaijan and the United States. "Azerbaijan, by joining the Peace Council, will share its noble mission of ending the conflict in Gaza and building a safer and more prosperous future for all parties suffering from long-term conflict," President Ilham Aliyev noted. The Azerbaijani leader also expressed his appreciation for the US President's leadership and peace-building efforts, wishing him success in his role as Chairman of the Peace Council.

This diplomatic exchange occurs as Azerbaijan continues to expand its role in international mediation and regional security. Since the beginning of 2025, the Republic of Azerbaijan has been increasingly active in global peace initiatives, leveraging its strategic position and balanced foreign policy. The Peace Council represents a significant shift in international governance, aiming to provide a structured transition toward permanent peace in volatile regions through the collective efforts of selected partner nations.
