US President Donald Trump has declared that Washington may deploy a second aircraft carrier strike group to the Middle East should nuclear negotiations with Tehran fail to reach a successful conclusion.
Operative Information Center-OMM, citing foreign media, reports that the head of state warned of more stringent measures if a comprehensive agreement is not secured. These remarks follow recent discussions between Iran and the United States held in Oman, mediated by the Sultanate last week.
Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated that these meetings allowed for an understanding of Washington's intentions and demonstrated sufficient common ground to continue diplomatic efforts. However, in interviews with "Channel 12" and "Axios," US President Donald Trump emphasized that the United States must either reach a deal with Iran or resort to very firm actions. Speaking on the "Kudlow" program on Fox Business Network, he expressed his belief that Tehran desires an agreement regarding its nuclear and ballistic missile programs, noting that failing to do so would be "unwise."
According to reports, potential vessels that could be dispatched to the region include the Asia-based USS George Washington and the USS George H.W. Bush, currently located on the US East Coast. Additionally, the Pentagon could potentially redeploy the USS Gerald R. Ford from the Caribbean to the Middle Eastern theater. Meanwhile, Ali Larijani, advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader, met with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said in Oman, asserting that the use of force cannot resolve disputes with the US and the West, maintaining that dialogue remains the only viable path.
The current tensions come amid long-standing international concerns regarding Iran's nuclear enrichment activities. While Tehran maintains that its nuclear program is intended solely for peaceful purposes and claims to have halted certain enrichment activities following strikes last year, the US administration under President Donald Trump continues to prioritize a policy of maximum pressure to ensure regional stability and prevent nuclear proliferation. The Middle East remains a focal point of global security, with the presence of US carrier strike groups serving as a primary tool for power projection and deterrence in the Persian Gulf and surrounding waters.
