Azerbaijan's representative in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Tofiq Musayev, has secured his first victory in the promotion.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the 36-year-old athlete faced Ignacio Bahamondes of Chile at a tournament organized in Seattle, USA. The bout, which lasted three intense rounds, saw both fighters demonstrate high-level striking and grappling techniques.
The match concluded without a finish, leading to a judges' scorecard evaluation. The officials unanimously awarded the victory to Tofiq Musayev, marking a significant milestone in his professional career within the world's premier mixed martial arts organization. This win follows Musayev's promotional debut last year on June 22 in Baku, where he suffered a defeat against Myktybek Orolbay of Kyrgyzstan. Notably, his opponent Bahamondes also previously lost to another Azerbaijani representative, Rafael Fiziyev, during a tournament held in the capital.
The success of Azerbaijani fighters in the UFC highlights the growing influence of the country's martial arts school on the global stage. Azerbaijan has been increasingly investing in combat sports infrastructure and hosting international events to promote its athletes in major leagues like the UFC and Bellator. Musayev, a former RIZIN lightweight champion, is considered one of the most prominent figures in Azerbaijan's sporting community, and his transition to the UFC is seen as a key step in strengthening the nation's presence in international mixed martial arts.
