A technical failure in the air traffic control system at Tokyo's Haneda Airport has resulted in widespread flight delays and cancellations. The disruption, which occurred early in the morning, forced major carriers to suspend operations, leaving thousands of travelers stranded at one of the world's busiest aviation hubs.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that according to Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the malfunction began at 7:15 a.m. local time (02:15 a.m. in Baku). The glitch prevented the transmission of flight schedules from Haneda to other airports across the country.
"Although the system was restored approximately 15 minutes later, the malfunction caused significant disruptions to flight schedules at Haneda and other airports," the ministry stated. As of 10:00 a.m. (05:00 a.m. in Baku), All Nippon Airways (ANA) had canceled 30 domestic flights, while Japan Airlines (JAL) canceled 53 flights, affecting an estimated 14,000 passengers.
Haneda Airport, also known as Tokyo International Airport, serves as a primary gateway to Japan and is a critical link for both domestic and international travel. Technical disruptions in air traffic management systems highlight the complexities of modern aviation infrastructure. For Azerbaijan, maintaining stable international air links remains a priority as the country continues to expand its aviation sector and strengthen ties with global transport hubs to facilitate trade and tourism.
