The United States has decided to gradually close its Consulate General in Peshawar, Pakistan, as part of a strategic realignment of its diplomatic presence in the region.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the U.S. Department of State issued a statement confirming the move. "This decision reflects our commitment to ensuring the safety of diplomatic personnel and the effective management of our resources," the statement read.

Despite the closure in Peshawar, the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, as well as the Consulates General in Lahore and Karachi, will continue their operations. The Peshawar mission has long been a critical post for monitoring developments near the Afghan border, but it has also faced significant security challenges over the years. This transition follows a broader trend of the U.S. government optimizing its global diplomatic footprint under the administration of US President Donald Trump, focusing on high-priority hubs to ensure maximum operational efficiency and personnel protection in volatile regions.
