The US administration has allocated $15.5 million in emergency aid to Colombia following a powerful earthquake that struck the nation. This assistance aims to bolster immediate relief efforts in the affected regions.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the US Department of State announced the aid package via its official account on the X social media platform.
The allocated funds are designated to provide emergency shelter, food, and protection for those impacted by the disaster, as well as to support ongoing damage assessments. The US Department of State expressed its solidarity with the people of Colombia and affirmed its readiness to assist the Colombian government in evaluating post-disaster needs.
On August 10, a powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia. The natural disaster has resulted in 132 confirmed fatalities and hundreds of injuries. Numerous buildings have sustained significant damage, and search and rescue operations remain ongoing. The tremors were felt not only across various regions of Colombia but also in neighboring Ecuador, Venezuela, and Panama, highlighting the regional scale of the seismic event.
