The United States has reached its highest level of nuclear weapons production since the Cold War era.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that US Energy Secretary Chris Wright made these remarks during a hearing before the House Appropriations Committee.

According to Wright, the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) of the US Department of Energy is fulfilling its mission to ensure a reliable and effective deterrent in the face of new and growing global threats. The Secretary noted that the NNSA is currently delivering the largest volume of new weapons since the end of the Cold War, a process involving the production of nuclear warheads under seven distinct modernization programs. "The nuclear renaissance is underway," Wright emphasized during his testimony.

This strategic shift comes as the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) between Russia and the United States expired on February 5. While Russia proposed a one-year extension of the existing limitations, Washington has not responded to the offer, signaling a pivot in its defense posture. Furthermore, US President Donald Trump's administration has expressed intentions to pursue a new trilateral nuclear agreement that would include China, reflecting the changing dynamics of global security and the need for a broader framework to manage nuclear proliferation in the 21st century.
