The spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmail Baghaei, has accused the United States of destabilizing the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, holding Washington accountable for the global consequences of the current crisis.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, the Iranian official rejected accusations that Tehran is responsible for the ongoing maritime tensions.
Baghaei stated that the Strait of Hormuz remained fully operational until February 28. However, he claimed that the situation in the region shifted dramatically following a military strike by the United States and Israel against Iran on that date.
The Iranian official accused Washington of initiating an illegal and aggressive conflict in the region. He noted that these actions have disrupted normal commercial shipping operations, halted the flow of oil pipelines, damaged international trade, and triggered a surge in global energy prices.
Baghaei further alleged that the United States is attempting to shift responsibility onto Iran by presenting a distorted narrative to the international community. "The US started the war, yet expects the entire world to pay the price while simultaneously pointing to Iran as the cause of this chaos. This is completely absurd," Baghaei remarked.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for global energy supplies, with a significant portion of the world's oil production passing through its narrow waters. Any disruption in this maritime corridor historically leads to immediate volatility in global oil markets and raises concerns regarding international energy security.
