US and Saudi Arabian forces have conducted a joint air operation against armed groups in Iraq reported to be supported by Iran. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing a statement from the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the operation was aimed at neutralizing potential threats against US military personnel and Saudi Arabia's energy infrastructure.
According to information from Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), at least 20 fighters were killed and 32 others injured in the strikes. The attacks reportedly targeted headquarters located in the provinces of Baghdad, Wasit, Nineveh, Basra, Kirkuk, Karbala, and Diyala. Reports indicate that the strikes caused significant damage to military equipment and infrastructure. Iranian media has confirmed the deaths of four military advisors from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zeidi convened an emergency security meeting regarding the incident and instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to pursue international legal measures. Amid the regional tensions, other security incidents have occurred, including an explosion and fire at a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Egypt's Damietta port, preliminarily attributed to a drone strike. Furthermore, Jordan announced that its air defense systems neutralized five missiles reportedly launched from Iran. US President Donald Trump's administration has stated that strict countermeasures will be taken against Iran. In response to the rising tensions in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia has proposed the creation of an international coalition to ensure the security of commercial vessels in the Red Sea.
