Since the start of the beach season in Azerbaijan on June 15, authorities have recovered the bodies of 40 individuals who drowned in non-designated swimming areas. This concerning statistic highlights the ongoing risks associated with swimming in unauthorized locations.
According to information provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), no fatalities have been recorded at beaches currently monitored by the State Service for Control over Small Vessels and Water Rescue. In contrast, the service's divers and rescue teams have successfully saved 55 people from drowning during the same period.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations serves as the primary government body in Azerbaijan responsible for disaster management, fire safety, and water rescue operations. The agency consistently emphasizes that while monitored beaches are equipped with professional lifeguards and safety infrastructure, non-designated areas lack such protections, making them significantly more dangerous for swimmers. The Ministry has issued a renewed appeal to the public, urging citizens to avoid swimming in uncontrolled water bodies that are not designated for recreational use to prevent further tragedies.
