Azerbaijan detains border violators and seizes large drug haul

The State Border Service (SBS) of Azerbaijan detained nine individuals for violating the state border during operations conducted in March of this year. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the detainees included three citizens of Azerbaijan, three from Pakistan, two from Iran, and one from Kazakhstan.

As part of measures to combat illegal migration, six individuals were apprehended while attempting to cross the border using forged passports, falsified date stamps, or documents belonging to others. Furthermore, 72 people were detained for violating border regime rules, with appropriate legal actions taken against them. In the fight against crime, 322 wanted persons were identified and handed over to relevant law enforcement authorities. Additionally, border officials prevented 582 individuals restricted from leaving the country from departing and blocked the entry of 11 individuals prohibited from entering Azerbaijan.

The SBS also reported significant success in anti-narcotics and anti-smuggling efforts, seizing 541 kilograms 132 grams of various narcotics and 17 psychotropic pills. Contraband with a total estimated value of 7,573,290 manats was intercepted, including Russian currency, firearm ammunition, various medicines, and tobacco products. These operations are part of Azerbaijan's ongoing commitment to securing its national frontiers and preventing the transit of illegal goods through the region.

The State Border Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan continues to modernize its infrastructure and surveillance capabilities to ensure the territorial integrity and security of the nation.
