Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated during a briefing in India following the Council of Foreign Ministers meeting that Russia remains open to dialogue with Europe, though it will not actively solicit such discussions.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the minister emphasized that Moscow is not demanding any negotiation process. "We are ready for a response as outlined by President Putin, but we will never run around and beg for it," Lavrov noted. He further expressed skepticism regarding recent statements from European officials concerning the necessity of dialogue with Russia, suggesting that such remarks are not being taken seriously by the Kremlin.
The remarks come amid a period of significantly strained diplomatic relations between Moscow and European capitals. Historically, the relationship between Russia and the European Union has been defined by deep economic interdependencies, particularly in the energy sector. However, recent geopolitical shifts have led to a breakdown in traditional communication channels. Lavrov's comments in India underscore Russia's current foreign policy stance, which prioritizes engagement with Global South partners while placing the responsibility for any potential rapprochement with the West on European leadership.
