Iran has announced the launch of a military operation targeting US military facilities in the region, citing this as a response to recent US airstrikes conducted near the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Iran's Press TV, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that it has targeted the Ali al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait, as well as command centers belonging to the US Navy's 5th Fleet in Bahrain and other military infrastructure.

The IRGC stated that the operation was carried out in retaliation for US airstrikes on Iranian military positions near the Strait of Hormuz. In an official statement, Tehran alleged that Washington's actions constituted a gross violation of existing agreements and ceasefire terms.

Furthermore, the Iranian side claimed that its air defense forces shot down a US-made MQ-9 Reaper drone operating over the Hormuz region of Bushehr province. US officials have not yet issued an official statement regarding these claims.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints, serving as a vital artery for global energy supplies. Tensions in the region have historically fluctuated, often impacting international oil prices and regional security dynamics, drawing close attention from global powers including the United States and regional stakeholders.
