Saudi Arabian air defense systems have successfully intercepted and destroyed several unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched toward the Kingdom's territory.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing Al Jazeera, that the defense systems were activated to counter the incoming threats across multiple regions.
According to a spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Defense, air defense units intercepted eight drones on March 13. The neutralized targets were detected over the country's central and eastern regions, specifically within the Al-Kharj province and the western outskirts of the capital, Riyadh. The Ministry had previously announced the successful interception of 14 other drones during a series of similar attempted strikes.
The escalation of drone attacks in the region has frequently targeted critical infrastructure and civilian areas within Saudi Arabia. These incidents are often linked to the ongoing conflict in Yemen, where the Saudi-led coalition has been engaged since 2015. The Kingdom continues to bolster its air defense capabilities to protect its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its energy facilities, which are vital to global oil markets.
