Saudi Arabia's air defense systems have successfully intercepted and destroyed 18 drones launched by Iran.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Defense released an official statement regarding the incident. According to the ministry, the kingdom's air defense units neutralized the 18 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over the past few hours.
The Ministry of Defense further disclosed that air defense systems had previously intercepted and destroyed seven missiles fired from Iran toward Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province. It was noted that falling missile debris landed on energy facilities within the country, causing some material damage. While an assessment of the impact is currently underway, officials have not yet specified which particular energy sites were affected.
This escalation comes amid long-standing regional tensions and frequent security challenges in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia, a key global energy supplier, has consistently invested in advanced missile defense technologies to protect its critical infrastructure and territorial integrity. The Eastern Province is of particular strategic importance as it houses the majority of the kingdom's oil production and processing facilities, which are vital to international energy markets.
