Law enforcement agencies in Baku have apprehended an individual involved in a series of extortion attempts targeting motorists. The suspect, identified as Elman Huseynov, was caught after footage circulated on social media showing him intentionally colliding with moving vehicles to demand compensation from drivers.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, police investigations confirmed that the 37-year-old suspect, born in 1987, has a prior criminal record for robbery and theft. Following the circulation of the incriminating video, authorities launched an immediate operation to identify and detain him.
Preliminary investigations reveal that Huseynov employed various fraudulent schemes to extort money from citizens by staging fake traffic incidents. He is currently in custody, and legal proceedings are underway to determine the full extent of his criminal activities. Such incidents highlight the importance of dashboard cameras in Azerbaijan, which are increasingly used by drivers to protect themselves against insurance fraud and staged accidents, providing critical evidence for law enforcement investigations.
