Russia has delivered humanitarian aid to Iran through the territory of Azerbaijan, marking a significant logistical coordination between the neighboring nations.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone conversation with President Ilham Aliyev to discuss the transit. During the call, Vladimir Putin expressed his gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev for the conditions created to ensure the seamless passage of Russian humanitarian supplies through Azerbaijan.

The delivery comes amid a sharp escalation in regional conflict. On February 28, the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran. These strikes resulted in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several other high-ranking officials. In response, Iran has targeted various locations in Israel, as well as sites in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq, and Cyprus, where military bases of the US and its allies are situated.

Azerbaijan, situated at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia, plays a pivotal role as a regional transport hub. The country has consistently maintained its position as a reliable transit corridor, facilitating international humanitarian efforts and regional stability. This latest cooperation highlights the strategic importance of the North-South transport corridor and Azerbaijan's commitment to maintaining balanced diplomatic relations during complex geopolitical shifts.
