The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan has issued a strong condemnation regarding a provocative incident involving the placement of anti-Azerbaijani materials in front of the guest house of the Azerbaijani Embassy in the Russian Federation.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Ministry’s spokesperson, Aykhan Hajizada, stated: “We strongly condemn the placement of provocative images against our country by unknown individuals in front of the guest house of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Russia.”
The official statement further emphasized that this unacceptable provocation appears designed to artificially strain Azerbaijan-Russia relations. The Ministry noted that it cannot be ruled out that this incident is part of a broader, biased campaign recently observed in certain Russian media outlets against Azerbaijan.
Baku has called upon the relevant authorities of the Russian Federation to provide a proper legal assessment of these provocative acts, ensure a comprehensive investigation of the incident, and take necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such events. The Ministry reiterated its expectation that the Russian side will fully comply with its obligations under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, ensuring the security of the Azerbaijani Embassy and its staff, and preventing any provocations that could hinder the normal functioning of the diplomatic mission.
Diplomatic missions are protected under international law, specifically the Vienna Convention, which mandates that host countries take all appropriate steps to protect the premises of diplomatic missions against any intrusion or damage and to prevent any disturbance of the peace of the mission or impairment of its dignity.
