The naval forces of Iran and Russia are scheduled to conduct joint military exercises in the Gulf of Oman and the northern Indian Ocean starting February 19.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the Mehr News Agency, that the drills aim to enhance tactical coordination between the two nations' fleets.

The announcement was made by Captain Hassan Maqsudloo of the Iranian Navy during a visit to the Russian corvette "Stoikiy" at the port of Bandar Abbas. According to the captain, the primary objective of the maneuvers is to strengthen cooperation in addressing maritime security threats. The exercises will specifically focus on protecting commercial vessels and tankers from potential terrorist activities in international waters and oceans.

Maqsudloo emphasized that these joint maneuvers will contribute to deepening the friendly relations between the two countries and facilitate the expansion of regional cooperation between Moscow and Tehran. The drills come at a time of increasing strategic alignment between the two nations in the maritime domain.

The Gulf of Oman is a critical waterway for global energy supplies, connecting the Arabian Sea with the Strait of Hormuz. Military cooperation between Russia and Iran has intensified in recent years, with both nations frequently conducting joint naval exercises to demonstrate their presence in the region and ensure the security of strategic trade routes. These activities are often viewed as a signal of the growing defense partnership between the two regional powers.
