The official visit of European Parliament President Roberta Metsola to Romania has been postponed, according to international media reports.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that as a result of the postponement, the official reception scheduled to take place at the Cotroceni Palace—the official residence of the Romanian President—in honor of Europe Day has also been canceled.
According to a statement from the Romanian Presidential Administration, the decision was made in light of the current political context and recent developments that require a full concentration of institutional efforts to resolve the emerging situation. The administration emphasized that the shift in schedule is necessary to address pressing domestic and regional priorities effectively.
Roberta Metsola, who has served as the President of the European Parliament since 2022, frequently conducts official visits to EU member states to discuss legislative priorities and regional security. Romania, a key member of the European Union since 2007, maintains a strategic role in the bloc's Eastern Flank. Europe Day, observed annually on May 9, marks the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration and celebrates peace and unity across the continent.
