Russia has condemned the United States' decision to bring charges against Raul Castro, the leader of the Cuban Revolution, labeling the move as an interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Russian Foreign Ministry (MFA) spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated during a press briefing that Moscow reaffirms its full solidarity with Cuba. Zakharova emphasized that Russia strongly denounces the use of "illegal unilateral restrictive measures, threats, and blackmail" against the island nation, adding that Moscow will continue to provide active support to the Cuban people during this period.

The charges, announced by the US Department of Justice, relate to the 1996 downing of two American aircraft belonging to the "Brothers to the Rescue" humanitarian organization. While Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically motivated, the development highlights the long-standing geopolitical friction between Washington and Havana. Russia and Cuba have historically maintained a strategic partnership, with Moscow frequently advocating for Cuba's sovereignty and the lifting of economic sanctions in international forums.
