Customs officers of the Nakhchivan Main Customs Department have successfully intercepted a significant attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics through the territory of Azerbaijan. During a specialized operation, authorities discovered and seized over 39 kilograms of heroin destined for Europe.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, a vehicle traveling from Iran to Poland was stopped for inspection at the "Julfa" customs post. The vehicle was officially declared to be transporting "plastic cladding sheets." However, during the customs examination, officers uncovered 780 compressed packages hidden inside the plastic panels using sophisticated concealment methods designed to evade detection. The total net weight of the seized heroin amounted to 39 kilograms and 315.246 grams.

Azerbaijan continues to play a critical role as a barrier against the illegal trafficking of narcotics along the "Balkan Route" and other transit corridors connecting Asia to Europe. The State Customs Committee frequently reports the interception of large-scale drug shipments originating from Iran, highlighting the country's commitment to international security and the fight against organized crime. This latest seizure in Nakhchivan underscores the vigilance of Azerbaijani authorities in monitoring transit cargo and protecting regional borders from illicit trade.
