An airstrike targeting a cafe located at the fishing port in Gaza City has left at least 6 people dead and 14 others injured.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Palestinian officials, the Israeli airstrike caused significant damage to the area, leaving debris scattered across the site.
Witnesses reported that the port area was heavily damaged following the missile strikes. The location had been serving as a temporary shelter for numerous Palestinian families who were forced to flee their homes due to the ongoing conflict.
The Israeli military stated that the strike targeted Hamas commanders and other militants allegedly planning attacks against Israeli forces. Israeli officials claimed that one of the individuals targeted participated in the October 7, 2023, attacks against Israel, though the Israeli side has not provided concrete evidence to substantiate these claims.
The airstrike occurred shortly after a visit to the region by Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump and a key diplomatic representative for the Middle East. Although Kushner discussed ceasefire and conflict resolution measures during meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other mediators, no significant progress has been achieved in the negotiations.
The primary points of contention between the parties remain the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the disarmament of Hamas. Hamas has accused Israel of sabotaging US-led peace initiatives, while Israel maintains that it will continue military operations until Hamas is fully disarmed. The latest attacks and the lack of progress in diplomatic talks have further raised questions regarding the future of the peace roadmap proposed by the United States.
