President Ilham Aliyev has signed a decree approving a new composition for the Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, aimed at further strengthening the strategic ties between the two nations.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the decree introduces significant changes to the commission's leadership and membership. Under the new structure, Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov will now lead the commission on behalf of Azerbaijan, replacing the Minister of Energy in this role. The updated composition also includes the Deputy Minister of Energy, the Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, and the Head of the International Cooperation Department of the Cabinet of Ministers. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has been tasked with officially notifying the Republic of Kazakhstan regarding these administrative changes.
The Joint Intergovernmental Commission serves as a vital mechanism for deepening bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, focusing on key sectors such as energy, transport, logistics, and agriculture. As both nations play pivotal roles in the Middle Corridor international transport route, this restructuring reflects a commitment to enhancing regional connectivity and economic integration. Historically, the commission has been instrumental in facilitating high-level dialogue and implementing large-scale infrastructure projects that benefit the entire Caspian region.
