Russian President Vladimir Putin has commented on the potential valuation of Greenland, drawing parallels to the historical purchase of Alaska by the United States.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing foreign media, Putin stated that if a historical comparison were to be made, Greenland's value could be estimated in the range of $200–250 million. The President noted that considering the amount paid by the U.S. for Alaska, similar calculations provide a basis for evaluating Greenland within a comparable financial framework, describing the approach as an estimate based on historical precedents.

According to official information released by the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin held an online meeting with permanent members of the Russian Security Council to discuss key issues on the international agenda. During the session, the Russian President also revealed that he has received an invitation to join the Peace Council, established as part of the peace initiative for Gaza proposed by US President Donald Trump. Putin viewed the invitation positively, stating that Russia has always supported initiatives aimed at strengthening international stability and intends to continue doing so.

The discussion regarding Greenland follows historical interest from Washington in the autonomous Danish territory, which is strategically significant due to its location in the Arctic and its vast natural resources. Historically, the United States purchased Alaska from the Russian Empire in 1867 for $7.2 million, a transaction that fundamentally altered the geopolitical landscape of North America. Putin's remarks emphasize the ongoing relevance of such historical territorial precedents in modern diplomatic discourse.
