Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian held a telephone conversation to discuss the escalating situation in the Middle East.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the Kremlin's press service, that the two leaders focused on recent regional developments and diplomatic efforts to reduce friction.
During the call, President Pezeshkian provided an assessment of the Iran-U.S. talks held in Islamabad on April 11. He expressed appreciation for Russia's principled stance on international platforms aimed at de-escalating regional tensions. The Iranian leader also extended his gratitude to Russia for the humanitarian assistance provided to the Iranian people. For his part, Vladimir Putin emphasized Russia's readiness to facilitate political and diplomatic solutions and to mediate efforts for establishing a fair and lasting peace in the Middle East, noting that Moscow will maintain active contact with all regional partners.
The discussion also covered bilateral cooperation, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening good-neighborly relations across all sectors. This dialogue comes at a critical time as Russia continues to position itself as a key mediator in regional conflicts, leveraging its strategic partnerships in the Middle East to balance competing interests. The interaction underscores the deepening diplomatic ties between Moscow and Tehran, which have expanded significantly in recent years through economic and security cooperation.
