Romania's Social Democratic Party (PSD), the largest political force in the ruling coalition, recalled all its ministers from the government on Thursday.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Romanian media reports, the primary objective of this political maneuver is to force Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan to resign. By withdrawing its ministers, the PSD aims to severely limit the government's ability to function and manage state affairs.
As a result of the PSD's decision, the current Romanian government now holds a minority position in parliament, facing a deepening political crisis. Romania has experienced several periods of political instability in recent years, often characterized by shifting alliances within its multi-party coalition system. Under Romanian law, a government that loses its majority must either seek new coalition partners or face a vote of no confidence in parliament, which could potentially lead to early elections if a new cabinet cannot be formed.
