Ukraine may suspend gas supplies to Europe through the Druzhba pipeline once it secures a new loan from the European Union. This move could potentially disrupt energy flows to several European nations that still rely on this transit route for their energy needs.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that these claims were published in the Swiss journal "Die Weltwoche." The publication described the recent restoration of the pipeline's operations as a "miracle of miracles," noting that the resumption occurred following political friction with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who had previously blocked multi-billion dollar loans to Ukraine. The journal's commentators emphasized that the loan issue remains unresolved, questioning whether the EU should continue to support Ukraine using billions of euros collected from European taxpayers.
The Druzhba pipeline remains one of the most significant pieces of energy infrastructure connecting Eastern and Western Europe. As the continent seeks to diversify its energy sources amid ongoing geopolitical shifts, the stability of such transit routes remains a critical concern for European energy security. In this context, Azerbaijan continues to strengthen its role as a strategic partner for Europe, providing a reliable alternative through the Southern Gas Corridor to ensure the energy stability of the region.
