Azerbaijan will never allow its territory to be used against any neighboring state, President Ilham Aliyev stated during a meeting of the Security Council.
As reported by Operative Information Center-OMM, the head of state emphasized that this position has been repeatedly communicated to the Iranian side, particularly following the confrontations that occurred last year. President Ilham Aliyev noted that despite Azerbaijan's consistent policy, Iranian state-controlled media resources have engaged in a smear campaign involving baseless accusations and slander intended to influence the perceptions of ethnic Azerbaijanis living in Iran. "They know very well that today the independent state of Azerbaijan is a place of hope for many Azerbaijanis living in Iran," the Azerbaijani leader noted.
The relationship between Baku and Tehran has faced periods of diplomatic tension, often centered on regional security and the rights of the significant Azerbaijani population in Iran. Azerbaijan maintains a balanced foreign policy, prioritizing regional stability and the protection of its national interests while fostering ties with its global partners. This statement reaffirms Baku's commitment to its sovereign principles and its role as a cultural and political center for the broader Azerbaijani community worldwide.
