President Ilham Aliyev has expressed hope that members of the European Parliament (MEPs) will reconsider their "unfair and biased" position regarding Azerbaijan. Speaking in an interview with Euronews television in Davos on January 20, the head of state addressed the persistent criticism directed at the country by European legislative bodies.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, President Ilham Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan has suspended cooperation with the European Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for several years. "We no longer react to this," the President stated, attributing the negative sentiment to specific lobbying groups and forces unable to accept Azerbaijan's independent foreign policy. He emphasized that Baku maintains a productive relationship with the European Commission, which remains the primary focus of its engagement with the European Union.

The President highlighted a perceived contradiction in the European Parliament's stance, noting that while MEPs accuse Azerbaijan of "aggression," Armenia itself has shown a positive valuation of its developing ties with Baku. He referenced the peace treaty initialed between Azerbaijan and Armenia at the White House in August of last year, an event facilitated by US President Donald Trump. "I hope that the members of the European Parliament will find the courage to reconsider their unfair position against Azerbaijan," President Ilham Aliyev added.

The World Economic Forum in Davos serves as a critical platform for global leaders to discuss geopolitical stability and economic cooperation. For Azerbaijan, these discussions often center on its role as a key energy provider to Europe and its efforts to secure a lasting peace in the South Caucasus following the restoration of its territorial integrity in Karabakh. The ongoing diplomatic efforts, supported by international mediators, aim to finalize a comprehensive peace agreement between Baku and Yerevan to ensure long-term regional security and economic integration in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
